Instead of putting in an arbitrary size tag, I used my 20-some-year-old Dymo labelmaker with iron-on labels to mark the measurements that this dress was sewn to.
I love this idea - I should do this on the kids homemade stuff so that when it's passed on to other children then their grown-ups know what sizes they are supposed to be. That's the challenge I always find when I buy handknits in the charity shop/thrift store. I bought one for my niece, and it was sent with a note to the effect of - I think it'll fit but stick it in the wardrobe for later if it's too big!
